Homemade Spaghetti and Meat Sauce with Meatballs over Pasta or Spaghetti Squash

Ingredients
  • FOR SAUCE
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground turkey
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 large cans tomato sauce
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 can Italian stewed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup Lincourt Annie Dyer Pinot Noir
  • Seasoned salt and pepper to taste


  • FOR MEATBALLS
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground turkey
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, whipped
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp minced onion
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
Directions

Directions for Sauce

  1. Sautée ground turkey and beef in pan with diced onion. Cover until brown, stirring occasionally.
  2. Drain and add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, chili powder, salt and pepper.
  3. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir well together and simmer on low for at least 3 hours.
  5. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Once finished, add in homemade meatballs.
  7. Put on top of pasta of choice or baked spaghetti squash.


Directions for Meatballs

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place lightly greased pan with 2 tablespoons olive oil in oven while preheating.
  3. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Roll mixture into about 20 golf ball sized meatballs.
  5. Place on pan and cook for 15 minutes, turn and bake for 5 more minutes.
  6. Place in homemade Spaghetti Sauce.
