Santa Maria Valley

The Santa Maria Valley in the northern part of the county is like a broad coastal plain that opens directly to the Pacific Ocean. Cool fog blankets the Valley’s vineyards nightly during the growing season and typically does not burn off until late the following morning. This extreme marine influence provides an ultra cool growing environment, perfect for the cultivation of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties.
